What Is EBD? What Does It Do? (EBD Brake System)
Electronic brake force distribution. It is an integrated system with the ABS system. When the brake pedal is pressed, the EBD brake system works together with the ABS braking system to evenly distribute the braking force to the front and rear wheels. When we press the brake pedal in cars, most of the braking force (70%) is applied to the front wheels and more braking force (30%) is applied to the rear wheels. The reason for the difference between the braking force distribution on the front and rear wheels is that when the brake is applied, the weight of the vehicle is loaded forward, reducing the load on the rear wheels. In addition, since the engine and transmission are in the front, the front of the vehicle is heavier than the rear. As the load pressure on the front wheel increases, the grip will also increase, so it will need more braking force.
On the rear wheels, as the load is forward, the pressure on the wheels and the grip will decrease also the slip limit value will decrease too.Therefore it will need less braking.
While this load difference is occurring, if equal braking force is sent to the front and rear wheels, the rear tires will start to slip immediately due to the light rear part, in this case the vehicle will be out of control. and the braking force will be reduced, the braking distance will increase.
If there is not EBD in the system, 70% of the braking force is given to the front wheels and 30% to the rear wheels.
But things will change when the vehicle is loaded and the number of passengers increases. The weights on the vehicle are not always constant, the weight distribution of the vehicle will change when the passenger gets on and stuff is put in the trunk. The load on the rear wheels will increase. Therefore, the distribution of braking force will have to change, more braking force will have to be sent to the rear wheels. The task of the EBD is to make this adjustment.
It shortens the braking distance by actively sending the appropriate braking force (hydraulic brake oil pressure) to each wheel, according to the load difference between the front-rear, right-left wheels, according to the number of passengers, according to the vehicle's deceleration by braking, according to the turn of the bends.
How the refit EBD fault?
In case of EBD fault, abs and brake fault lamps come on the instrument panel. Symptoms such as deterioration in braking force, vibration and noise in the brake pedal are symptoms of a malfunction in the EBD - ABS system (Module). As soon as possible, the diagnostic device should be connected to the technical service and the malfunction should be checked.
