Sloted Discs Or Drilled Discs

2929

TO HAVE BETTER PERFORMANCE, ARE DRILLED OR SLOTED DISCS PREFERABLE? WHAT ADVANTAGES TO EACH TYPE OFFER? WHAT ARE THE CONTRAINDICATIONS OF THE TWO VERSIONS?

Are you looking for higher performance brake discs for your vehicle, but don't know which to choose between drilled discs or slotted discs? However, choosing between these two types is not that difficult. You just need to know the advantages and contraindications of each brake disc type.

Don’t fear Yavuzsan will help you solve the dilemma: drilled or sloted? By the end of this article, you will know which disc type best suits your needs. Let's just say that both provide better grip, better distribution of gases and more effective performance in wet weather compared to a standard disc. However, pay attention to the quality. Not all perforated discs are the same, nor are all slotted discs the same.

Before we move on to choosing between perforated and slotted discs, it would be right for us to discuss the quality of the brake discs that you are about to buy. Any comparison to be made will be valid under conditions of equality. Before trying to solve the dilemma of whether to buy perforated or slotted discs, you need to make sure you choose a brand that can provide quality, safety and reliability.

From this perspective, Yavuzsan's nearly 50 years of experience in the manufacture of racing brake discs represents an unmatched guarantee. In fact, Yavuzsan not only manufactures both types of discs, but also offers quality standards that no other manufacturer can match.

Research and development, laboratory and road testing, production and distribution: command over the entire production cycle allows Yavuzsan to offer a range of brake discs that offer exceptional performance, reliability, longevity and comfort in all operating conditions. The production of OEM equipment is carried out in facilities approved by vehicle manufacturers. In the same facilities and with the same machines, Yavuzsan also makes Aftermarket products or Upgrade products, which therefore benefit from the same high technological value designed for the original components.
Yavuzsan controls all phases of the production process: design, development, testing, casting, machining, assembly, distribution and technical support. For the aftermarket, Yavuzsan offers two product lines, both characterized by perforated and slotted discs.

The Aftermarket range covers more than 98% of vehicles on the road and comes alongside conventional discs without grooves or perforations, as well as Yavuzsan Performance discs (with ribbed braking band) and Yavuzsan discs with perforated braking band. The High Performance range, on the other hand, is more sporty and includes both integral and two-piece perforated and slotted discs with an aluminum seat and a perforated or corrugated cast iron braking band.

So no one can give better advice than Yavuzsan on which type you should choose. Below, we will review the features and advantages of the two types of brake discs for the sake of simplicity, looking at the Yavuzsan sloted and Yavuzsan drilled discs, which can be considered the entry level of the Yavuzsan range.
The same considerations obviously apply to all dirlled and slotted discs in general, but also to discs in the High Performance series. The High Performance series discs are available in both surface finishes and are for all car enthusiasts who want reliable brake discs on the road and premium discs on the track.

Why perforated or slotted discs improve braking?

The presence of Yavuzsan slots or Yavuzsan drilled on a brake disc is a guarantee of better grip and certainly a more precise and effective braking system.  This effect is due to the surface of the holes or slots which ensure, especially in the initial braking phases, better performance thanks to a higher friction coefficient than that of standard discs.
Another important advantage of using drilled and slotted discs is the continuous renewal of the brake pad friction material. The holes also interrupts the sheet of water that can deposit on the braking surface in the rain. For this reason, even in the case of wet roads, the system responds efficiently from the very first braking operation. Likewise, the outward-facing slots allow more efficient distribution of water that may be present on the disc surface: the result is smoother behavior in all weather conditions.
At the same way that they disperse water, holes and slots also provide better capacity for dissipation of the gases that form due to the high temperatures between the pad and disc surfaces.
When they reach high temperatures, these gases created by the combustion of the resins that make up the friction material, can cause the phenomenon of fading, which reduces the friction coefficient between disc and pad, with a consequent loss of braking efficiency.  The presence of holes or slots in the braking surface allows these gases to be expelled quickly, quickly restoring optimum braking conditions.
Ultimately, both disc types, Yavuzsan dirlled and Yavuzsan slotted, are two outstanding solutions for anyone who wants a sporty ride without sacrificing comfort and disc and pad life. Differences compared to standard discs are both aesthetic and practical. On the other hand, let's talk about the differences and conditions that tip the scales from one species to another.

Who is the slotted discs for?

The slotted disc is generally recommended for those who prefer to use the disc in more “extreme conditions”. For all types of brake discs, particularly for those with machining on the braking band as in the case of drilled and slotted discs, Brembo conducts numerous bench and road tests in order to meet the performance and thermal-mechanical needs of the braking system in the widest possible range of operating conditions.
This avoids the risk of cracking for both perforated and slotted discs. However, limited to use in extreme conditions, as in racing conditions, or simply for track sessions, the slotted disc has better mechanical resistance than the perforated disc and should therefore be preferred.

The differences in terms of performance are basically non-existence, especially if we consider sporty use, albeit still on the road. In order to avoid misuse and therefore unnecessary expenditure, we should point out that use on the track requires another type of product that is specifically designed for racing.

Who is the perforated disc for?

On the other hand, for those who do not expect to expose their brake discs to extreme operating conditions, the “perforated disc” option is preferable, as one of the benefits of this version is that it provides better cooling capacity.
Both the slots and the drilled discs are specially designed to guarantee superior heat dissipation compared to standard discs. However, the presence of holes indicates a better heat dissipation capacity during braking compared to that guaranteed by the grooves that characterize slotted discs.
As perforated disc is synonymous with sportiness for many car enthusiasts, Yavuzsan discs may also be more suitable for those who pay more attention to the aesthetic aspect.

For the most demanding

On the other hand, for those who alternate between an urban driving style and a more aggressive driving style, the ideal solution is represented by the Yavuzsan series discs. These discs are designed to limit temperature rise and the risk of disc deformation and can be perforated or slotted.

When Yavuzsan discs are combined with pads from the same product range, the advantages of the best discs for road use can be achieved; these count as long service life, comfort and consistently top-notch performance. Yavuzsan discs are gold galvanized to give your car a modern and attractive look.
